Case Study

In 2019 one of E-Resourcing’s e-commerce clients was acquired by a much larger organisation and was given a dramatically steep growth plan. In order to achieve their targets, the SMT realised they had to redesign their online sales and fulfilment systems, which also meant heavily restructuring their IT department. This was going to require the initial recruitment of a CTO to then lead the hiring of a number of developers, Project Managers and Business Analysts.

The client reviewed their potential suppliers and decided to ask E-Resourcing to initially undertake and fulfil the executive Search for the correct CTO and then to be their exclusive partner of IT talent, for both freelance contractors and permanent staff.

Key Criteria:

  • Provide the most cost-effective solution to staffing the internal development and refresh of the sales and fulfilment system.
  • Show proof of true partnership style of having delivered a wide variety of IT talent in all guises, giving advice and guidance as to the best approach, including knowledge of IR35 issues that were becoming top priority at that time.
  • Within the overall plan, come up with resourcing ideas to help and dovetail with the financial challenges the client would meet during the growth and development plan.

Methodology:

  • Initially provide a technically astute Interim CIO to help define and implement the first phase.
  • Provide benchmarking and heatmaps of specific skills located close enough to support the client’s growth plan.
  • Exclusively provide shortlists for all the developers, BAs, PMs required, giving advice as to whether contractor or permanent staff would be most appropriate.
  • Stay closely in touch with all hires to help handle any cultural and managerial issues that may arise as the culture change and growth was driven through the department.
  • Work with the CEO to provide a package that would appropriately attract the Interim CIO to convert to a Permanent contract – this included advice on suitable incentive plans.
  • Engage closely with the HR department to provide advice regarding IR35.

Outcome:

  • The business grew dramatically over the next 4 years and justified the buyer’s original acquisition.
  • During the period 2019 - 2023 E-Resourcing placed 22 contractors and 11 permanent staff across multiple IT disciplines including placing 3 working from abroad, growing the IT department to a headcount of 25 at its peak.
  • The speed and efficiency brought to up-sizing the IT Department meant E-Resourcing was asked to provide similar exclusive recruitment services to other parts of the business.
